Synaptic vesicle protein 2C is an integral membrane component of synaptic vesicles and has been implicated in the storage and release of neurotransmitters (dopamine). It is densely expressed in dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, and changes in its expression may lead to altered synaptic transmitter release in PD pathogenesis [27]. The gene discussed is SV2C; the disease is Parkinson disease.
