Aldrich’s group showed that the high Ca2+ sensitivity in LNCaP prostate cancer cells (29) was due to the presence of a BK auxiliary subunit, a leucine-rich repeat (LRR)-containing protein 26 (LRRC26; γ1), which leftward-shifted BK voltage-activation curves around 140 mV compared to BK(α) alone in the absence of intracellular Ca2+ (18, 19). This evidence concerns the gene KNG1 and prostate carcinoma.
