To conclude, leveraging the largest GWAS data of European ancestry with cutting-edge postGWAS analytical methods, our work confirms a putative causal effect of depression on stroke acting partially through smoking initiation, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and atrial fibrillation, and reveals TMEM106B as a shared potential drug target for depression and stroke. The gene discussed is TMEM106B; the disease is major depressive disorder.
