Although several studies reported negative or no significant associations between increased insulin and DHEAS in women with obesity and/or PCOS [12,13,20,21] and also in vitro in a human adrenocortical cell line [34], our results are consistent with data published by Amato et al. who demonstrated a significant positive correlation between DHEAS and compensatory hyperinsulinemia quantified by the oral disposition index in PCOS patients [35]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
