Glatiramer acetate, a synthetic mixture of 4 amino acids intended to mimic myelin basic protein, one of the major myelin autoantigens in MS (70), increases BDNF levels (71–73) as well as Interferon-beta (55, 74), even though these agents do not readily cross the blood brain barrier, indicating indirect effects founding these observations. This evidence concerns the gene BDNF and myeloid sarcoma.
