Gene targeting experiments in mouse and analysis of Rbfox1 copy number variations in human has shown that Rbfox1 is a critical player in neuronal excitability and, like TrkB, has been associated with multiple psychiatric disorders and complex pathologies of the central nervous system (CNS) including epilepsy, autism spectrum disorders, Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases [10–17]. This evidence concerns the gene RBFOX1 and Parkinson disease.
