However, euthyroid-sick syndrome (55) (a) typically exhibits circulating TSH that is normal or low, rather than elevated as seen here; (b) has not been shown to be associated with diminished iodination of (and thyroid hormone formation within) TG, although this does occur in states of TSH resistance (46), which was observed in the present study; and (c) is not associated with diminished thyroidal response to TSH.
