Recently published epidemiological studies suggest that certain single-nucleotide polymorphisms in genes encoding TNF-α or pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines involved in the sepsis and septic shock cascade, as well as the coagulation system, may influence the course and outcome of sepsis [12]. To investigate the possibility that genetic polymorphisms or pathogenic variants were involved in the endotoxin tolerance observed in our patient, whole-exome sequencing was planned. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and Sepsis.
