Here, we show that HIV-1 infection of MDMs also leads to secretion of IL-1β, which was abrogated upon pre-treatment of cells with HIV-1 RT, integrase, transcription, or Rev-CRM1 inhibitors (Fig 1A and 1B), suggesting that nucleo-cytoplasmic export of unspliced or partially-spliced HIV-1 RNA is required for both type I IFN responses and IL-1β secretion. This evidence concerns the gene XPO1 and HIV-1 infection.
