Notably, three mitochondrial localized genes— solute carrier family 6 member 2 (SLC6A2), MAF BZIP transcription factor F (MAFF), troponin C1, slow skeletal and cardiac type (TNNC1)—and three mitoCarta genes— haloacid dehalogenase like hydrolase domain containing 3 (HDHD3), fragile histidine triad diadenosine triphosphatase (FHIT), interferon alpha inducible protein 27 (IFI27)—were upregulated across multiple cell types in AD brain10 (Figure 1E and Supplementary Figures 2A–E). The gene discussed is SLC6A2; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
