Although studies have shown that MTC cells also have a tendency to produce energy through glycolysis, which results in lactate accumulation, unlike PTC and FTV, glycolysis of MTC may be regulated by RET gene mutations, and the tumor microenvironment in MTC, such as hypoxia, further encourages lactate production (Werner et al., 2019; Kanekura, 2023). Here, RET is linked to medullary thyroid gland carcinoma.
