A transmembrane protein gene, TMEM204, typically hypomethylated in MASLD patients (Abbott et al., 1998b; Murphy et al., 2013; Oh et al., 2024), was found to be hypermethylated, and EFCAB11, often downregulated in obese individuals with diabetes (Ganekal et al., 2023), showed similar hypermethylation in prenatal-BPA treated liver samples. The gene discussed is EFCAB11; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
