Later research revealed autoantibodies targeting α-MSH, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), and luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) in subpopulations of patients with different EDs, including BN and BED (Fetissov et al., 2002), proposing the hypothesis that there was an involvement of autoantibodies against neuropeptides in the regulation of appetite and emotions in EDs (Fetissov et al., 2008). This evidence concerns the gene STAMBP and X-linked cone dysfunction syndrome with myopia.
