Another functional study in HK-2 kidney cells examining the role of hsa-miR-199a-3p in diabetic nephropathy showed that hsa-miR-199a-3p protects these cells from diabetic-induced injury by upregulating E-cadherin expression through the repression of KDM6A, a histone lysine demethylase (36). This evidence concerns the gene KDM6A and diabetic kidney disease.
