Myokines are cytokines secreted by skeletal muscle, including interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, IL-5, brain-derivded neurotrophic factor (BDNF), fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-21, leukemia hibihitory factor (LIF), irisin and secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) and are responsible for inhibiting the progression of sarcopenia, but its ability to secrete decreases with age (Aryana et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene SPARC and sarcopenia.
