TNF and irritable bowel syndrome: Ourfinding of higher concentrations of Erysipelotrichaceae in mice that consumed alcohol in adolescence compared to those consuming water is consistent with previous reports of increased relative abundance of the Erysipelotrichales order in mice after the Lieber-DeCarli ethanol diet,47 and in mouse models of acute colitis.48 In addition, Erysipelotrichaceae has been associated in humans with irritable bowel syndrome,49 and TNF-α driven Crohn’s Disease,50 suggesting that alcohol drinking during adolescence may be closely linked to microbiota alterations observed in inflammatory diseases.
