FOS and leukemia: Although we previously demonstrated that iron overload directly regulated AML cells by decreasing leukemic stem cells (LSCs) levels but increasing the tumor load in BM and extramedullary tissues via promoting the proliferation of leukemia cells through the upregulation of FOS (14), a comprehensive interpretation of the pathologic roles of iron overload in leukemia, especially the crosstalk between iron overload leukemic microenvironment and normal hematopoietic components, is less well-defined.
