Variants in LYPLAL1 have been associated with other metabolic phenotypes, including waist-to-hip ratio, fat distribution, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD; previously nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD) [18,19,20,21,22,23], and results in sex-specific body composition phenotypes in LYPLAL1 knockout mice, which suggests that this protein’s de-palmitoylation activity has broad effects on metabolic homeostasis.
