The TIBC, which indicates the total amount of iron that TF can bind, was significantly increased in the young (3421.76 ± 855.31 μg/dL) and old iron overload groups (3424.37 ± 306.57 μg/dL) compared with the young (466.95 ± 51.07 μg/dL, p < 0.001) and old control groups (506.87 ± 58.90 μg/dL, p < 0.001) (Figure 1B). Here, TF is linked to Tangier disease.
