Chronic injury, however, is usually associated with a chronic muscle disease, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), which cannot be completely repaired, as the muscle injury is caused by genetic defects in the dystrophin gene that leads to sarcolemma leakage, myofiber necrosis, chronic inflammation, and fibro-fatty tissue replacement [1]. The gene discussed is DMD; the disease is Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
