Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder primarily characterized by the selective loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, widespread neurodegeneration, impaired autophagy, mitochondrial dysfunction, and the pathological accumulation of misfolded alpha-synuclein into intracellular aggregates known as Lewy bodies [141,142]. This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Parkinson disease.
