SLC5A8 was postulated as a potent tumor suppressor [3] and its lowered levels were shown in numerous malignancies [4,5,6,7,8,9], including follicular thyroid carcinoma [10] and papillary thyroid carcinoma [11], where its suppression seems to be BRAF-dependent [12] and is related to tumor aggressiveness [13].
