OXT and Anxiety: Some of these factors may be protective, such as the high levels of oxytocin reported in WS [117] being a likely protective factor against social anxiety, and some may exacerbate anxiety, such as cognitive flexibility issues reported in WS (e.g., [3,95]), and may make it more likely that WS individuals become stuck on their anxious thoughts and may be a potential barrier to anxiety treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy.
