Laboratory investigations revealed anemia (hemoglobin 9.6 g/dL), leukocytosis (10,600/mm3), elevated creatinine (1.64 mg/dL), hyperbilirubinemia (2.23 mg/dL), and markedly elevated levels of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein/CRP (2.94 ng/mL and 203.9 mg/L, respectively).
