SZY-200 inhibits the proliferation of bladder cancer cells by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis comparable to GEM alone and CP-4126 (an elaidic acid–GEM conjugate), but the interesting finding in this study is that SZY-200’s entry into bladder cancer cells does not rely on hENT1, a transporter protein that promotes GEM resistance. Here, SLC29A1 is linked to urinary bladder cancer.
