Although elevated CSF concentrations of a proinflammatory interleukin-6 (IL-6) were also detected in post-neurosurgical patients with signs of secondary bacterial meningitis, subsequent ROC analysis together with analysis of the existing literature revealed its low specificity (sensitivity: 96% and specificity: 54%) in comparison with p-HPhLA (sensitivity: 67% and specificity: 83%) [25]. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and bacterial meningitis.
