ADORA2A and periodontal disorder: Logically following our previous studies and based on evidence that CGS21680, a selective A2aR agonist, can mitigate inflammation, preventing liver damage [15] and lung inflammation with fibrosis [16] and being mitoprotective in an osteoarthritis model [17], we hypothesized that A2aR stimulation underpins adenosine’s protective effects in periodontal disease and could improve mitochondrial health in gingival fibroblasts, ultimately promoting cellular resilience.
