ALB and primary biliary cholangitis: The most recent BAVENO VII publication[11] proposed a consensus definition of recompensation, which requires the fulfillment of all three criteria: (A) removal, suppression, or cure of the primary etiology of cirrhosis; (B) resolution of ascites (off diuretics), encephalopathy (off lactulose/rifaximin), and absence of recurrent variceal hemorrhage (for at least 12 months); (C) stable improvement of liver function tests (albumin [ALB], international normalized ratio, bilirubin), providing a prognostic framework for assessing patients with decompensated PBC receiving UDCA therapy.
