Although SSX fusions remain essentially specific to SS (including the aforementioned SSX fusions to EWSR1, MN1, and SS18L1 found in tumors with SS histology, gene expression and methylomes [14]), targeted RNA and DNA sequencing (using TruSight RNA Fusion, FoundationOne Heme, KAPA Hyperplus, and FusionPlex Pan-Solid Tumor panels) have uncovered novel SS18 fusions in other neoplasia. This evidence concerns the gene SSX2 and synovial sarcoma.
