Many functional and genetic studies have indicated that an increase in INaR produced by Nav1.7 and Nav1.8 can induce hyperexcitability in small DRG neurons, leading to conditions such as paroxysmal extreme pain disorder and small fibre neuropathy (Jarecki et al., 2010; Xiao et al., 2019). The gene discussed is SCN10A; the disease is peripheral neuropathy.
