Although more work is required to delineate the potential interplay between adenine, methionine, and the mTOR pathway in diabetic kidney disease, our data lend support that hyperglycemia drives glucose metabolism to the mTOR cycle and SGLT2 inhibition mitigates the effects of the mTOR pathway by way of adenine, methionine, and cysteine. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and diabetic kidney disease.
