INS and type 2 diabetes mellitus: It is administered to patients with type 1 diabetes who lack endogenous insulin production, and to patients with type 2 diabetes, who exhibit reduced insulin secretion or response.1 As a therapeutic agent, the most common and serious side effect of insulin is hypoglycaemia.2 Hypoglycaemia can result from inappropriate insulin dosing, such as miscalculated doses or excessive infusion rates.
