Table 1 shows the baseline characteristics by diabetes status. Patients with diabetes tended to have higher levels of fasting glucose (8.11 vs. 5.40 mmol/L, p < 0.001), triglycerides (1.77 vs. 1.44 mmol/L, p < 0.001), and ALT (36.02 vs. 32.96 U/L, p < 0.001), but lower levels of LDL cholesterol (2.79 vs. 3.16 mmol/L, p < 0.001) and HDL cholesterol (1.24 vs. 1.36 mmol/L, p < 0.001) (Table 1).
