RNA-seq analysis identified 239 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between cases and controls (FDR <0.05, Benjamini-Hochberg) and functional enrichment analysis using STRING revealed that these DEGs formed a significantly interconnected network with enrichment for hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF1A) signaling (KEGG) and response to hypoxia (Gene Ontology), both of which are biologically relevant to lung cancer [40]. The gene discussed is HIF1A; the disease is lung carcinoma.
