In the present study, we investigated potential improvements of CRB-65 for COVID-19 patients using the following set of seven biomarkers also employed in improving the CRB-65 score for patients with non-COVID community acquired pneumonia (CAP) [8]: Previous studies showed that elevated levels of N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP), a marker of cardiac stress and heart failure, and high sensitive troponin T (TnT-hs), an indicator of myocardial injury, are both strongly associated with mortality in COVID-19 patients [9–11]. This evidence concerns the gene NPPB and COVID-19.
