In models of arthritis, IL‐17 has been shown to mediate mechanical pain, with its neutralisation preventing methylated bovine serum albumin (mBSA)‐induced articular hypersensitivity (Pinto et al. 2010) and intra‐articular injection of IL‐17 sensitising nociceptive C‐fibres and enhancing the excitability of rat dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons (Richter et al. 2012). The gene discussed is IL17A; the disease is arthritic joint disease.
