Although very little is known about the epigenetic modifications of the PIEZO1 gene (also known as FAM38a), which encodes the Piezo1 protein (Zarychanski et al., 2012), few studies have documented methylation changes associated with pathological phenotypes during development, such as the Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome in neonates (Radhakrishna et al., 2021) and obesity in childhood (Ren et al., 2024). The gene discussed is PIEZO1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
