Currently, intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) represents the standard treatment for neovascular AMD (Cheung et al., 2017); however, its efficacy is limited in non-exudative (dry) forms (Śpiewak et al., 2024), particularly in geographic atrophy, the treatment options for which are highly limited (Wheeler et al., 2024). Here, VEGFA is linked to atrophic macular degeneration.
