While the anxiety index remained unchanged (Supplementary Fig. 8a), optogenetic activation of FGFR1 in the dentate gyrus for 12 h per day over 1 week—sufficient to fully activate the FGFR1–Notch–BDNF axis—resulted in a significant increase in sucrose preference and reduction in total immobility time (Supplementary Fig. 8b, c).
