Once a viral infection has been established, intracellular nucleic acid sensor molecules, including cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) and retinoic acid-inducible gene-I (RIG-I), recognize virus-derived double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) and double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), respectively, in the cytoplasm [3,4,5]. The gene discussed is CGAS; the disease is viral infectious disease.
