Interestingly, although CBX4 has been reported to act as a tumor suppressor by interacting with histone deacetylase 3 (HDAC3) to inhibit RUNX2 gene expression [25], our data suggest that CBX4 may also function as an oncogenic driver in a broader cellular context, supporting CRC cell proliferation and tumorigenic capacity.
