Barati et al. (2010) [20] reported that in ICU patients, sTREM-1 and CRP concentrations were higher in the sepsis group than in the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) group (p < 0.001), which was also observed by Su et al. (2012) [8], who reported that the sepsis group had higher serum levels of sTREM-1 and CRP than did the SIRS group (p < 0.05). Here, CRP is linked to systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
