Consistent with the protumor role of chronic inflammation, interleukin (IL)-1 beta, IL-6, and IL-8 expressed in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) increase when the latter evolve into oral squamous cells carcinoma (OSCC) and, even more, when OSCC metastasizes. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma.
