Accurate recognition in such cases is essential to avoid misdiagnosis; however, it is worth noting that evaluation of such atypical features may be affected by interobserver variability assessment among pathologists. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for MDM2 gene amplification can be used to distinguish between benign reactive atypical cells and atypical lipomatous tumor/well-differentiated liposarcoma and would be the gold standard test in such cases [9,10].
