YY1 and neoplasm: Yin Yang 1 (YY1), a DNA-binding zinc finger transcription factor, functions as both a transcriptional activator and repressor to regulate networks of genes required for cellular processes during the development of the brain,10 heart,11 pancreas,12 immune cells,13 and even tumour cells.14 Mechanistically, our previous work has demonstrated that YY1 stabilizes promoter–enhancer looping to facilitate gene transcription through directly interacting with RNA polymerase II.12 YY1 also epigenetically regulates gene expression by recruiting chromatin modifiers.
