Inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) are known to promote hypertriglyceridemia through enhanced hepatic lipogenesis and reduced lipoprotein lipase activity, while simultaneously suppressing cholesterol synthesis and increasing cholesterol catabolism (Górecka et al., 2022; Agnello et al., 2021). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is hypertriglyceridemia.
