Beyond its well-established role in the nervous system, m-BDNF is increasingly recognized as a pleiotropic molecule involved in various peripheral physiological processes, such as myocardial ischemia protection (Cannavo et al., 2023), promotion of angiogenesis (Mori et al., 2018), and regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism (Yang et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene BDNF and myocardial ischemia.
