The stark dependency of gliomas on NLGN3 signaling in these experimental models can be understood in part by observations that NLGN3 exposure increases glioma gene expression related to multiple processes of neuron-glioma interactions, notably synapse-related gene expression2 and concordantly neuron-to-glioma synapses are reduced in the absence of NLGN3 from the tumor microenvironment16. The gene discussed is NLGN3; the disease is glioma.
