In rodent models of photothrombotic stroke, the SAHA (a broad-spectrum HDAC inhibitor suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid) and the MI192(a selective HDAC2/3 inhibitor) have been found to enhance the expression of neuroplasticity-related genes near the infarct, improve dendritic complexity and spine density, and decrease apoptosis within the infarcted region. The gene discussed is HDAC9; the disease is stroke disorder.
