Interestingly, the predicted BMP-1 cleavage site at position 134 is located near the exfoliation syndrome (XFS)-associated coding variants at positions 141 (R141L) and 153 (G153D), suggesting that changes in LOXL1 processing may play a role in the pathogenesis of XFS (Aung, Chan & Khor, 2018) (Fig. 1B).
